Adventure activities along the Wild Atlantic Way
Come on a voyage of Discovery with Extreme Ireland this Summer on one of our multi Adventure tours along the Wild Atlantic way. As well as treking through the Fantastic Irish countryside with cliff top hikes and mountain walks you also get to partake in fantastic adventure activities with excellent local providers. One of the highlights is Stand Up Paddling with SUP for all in co. Sligo. You get to explore a fantastic river in peaceful surroundings and stunning views. Further down the coast we explore one of the most visited natural attractions in Ireland the Cliffs of Moher but not in the usual way. Hop in a kayak and see this fantastic place from a viewpoint experienced by only a few. There are too many adventures to mention in this small piece but I have to include the Slea head cycle. You get to explore what is for me one of the most scenic places in Ireland. You will have your breath taken away as you turn each corner
Whiskey And Castles Tour
Irish Day tours have developed a brand new tour “Whiskey and Castles” which gives our customers the chance to visit two of Irelands finest whiskey visitor attractions. Tullamore DEW is one of Irelands best known brands and relate their Story through artefacts, interactive displays and excellent guides. Needless to say the guided tour finishes with a tasting of Tullamores fine produce. The Second Attraction we visit is The Killbegan Distillery. This is a working historic Distillery. You get to witness the production of Whiskey from beginning to end and yet again get a generous taste at the end of the tour. The visits to the distilleries is interrupted by a visit to the fantastic Birr castle which is still home to the Earl of Rosse. Again a guided tour is included in the price and then you have ample time to explore the award winning gardens. This castle is of special interest to anybody with an interest in science or the Stars as the 3rd Earl was an inventor and had what was the largest telescope in the world in the 19th century built on the castle grounds. The telescope, historic sketches and much more can be seen at a permanent science exhibition.
Extreme Ireland are putting a big push into trying to get people out discovering the countryside. We have a number of mountain leaders working within the company including our director Keith McDonnell. Our Mountain skills courses give basic training to help you navigate off the beaten track. Skills learned include
- Map reading
- Map setting
- Compass use
- Grid references
- Measuring distance
- Calculating journey time
- Planning trips
Mountain skills give you the confidence to go off the beaten track and discover Irelands hidden gems and are the first steps in achieving mountain leader status.
If you want to experience the adventure of a lifetime this summer I can’t recommend the Slovenia adventure highly enough. Slovenia is a beautiful country with 70% tree cover, valleys, mountains and glacial lakes. The main objective of this adventure is to summit mount Triglav the highest mountain in the Julian Alps. This is a fabulous project but doesn’t require advanced climbing ability. You will be accompanied by a Mountain leader with the highest qualifications. Any body with relative fitness is capable of this climb. We also bring you kayaking on lake Bohinje and let you explore the fantastic city of Lubliana.
