Come and enjoy the Wicklow mountains on our special Full Moon walks!

These began in 2008 and will be still going well in 2013 with the feedback we are receiving from everyone. It is a spectacular opportunity to experience the mountains during a full moon. We will be doing walks that suit the experience of the group but you will be expected to walk for anything up to 3 to 4 hours depending on the walk location. This is a great insight into what goes on with our local wildlife at night-time. Your guide will bring you to some of the best view points over the mountains. Good examples of hikes we will be doing would be Camaderry, Derrybawn, and Turlough Hill etc. The walks will begin at around 7 pm in the winter & 9pm in the summer from an arranged starting point.

Contact our office staff to let you know the starting points. This is a great opportunity for hiking, night navigation and just experiencing the freedom that the mountains in the night can give you. Unmissable!

Price: €25 per person

Our next Full Moon Walk is Sunday February 28th

We will be meeting at Kilmacanogue, OSI Grid reference O247146.

We will be doind a full traverse of the famous Great Sugal Loaf Mountain. Not to be missed! You will need good (broken in already) walking Boots, Something hot / cold to drink and a snack.. Rain Gear is essential - just in case. Wear suitable clothes for the weather on the night. Carry an extra layer in case it is a little colder after the sun goes down in a small rucsack if you feel it necessary . If you have a head torch bring it along with you as well. We have spare ones, but only a limited amount. Our Moon walks are for walkers that already have experience in the hills. You will be walking on the open mountain so prior experience on this type of terrain is expected. This walk will take roughly 2 and a half hours with time for a break en route.

Our last Full Moon Walk...

Our walk in January proved to be a fantastic night on the hill with 24 people joining us for the walk. We also had a camerman and reporter from the Nationwide program on RTE who were eager to get out the message of our walks. The evening was perfect albeit a little cold. There was a lot of ice and snow still on Kippure mountain when we went to tackle it from Lough Bray. The first 20 minutes of the walk required delicate footwork avoiding ice patches before we ascended towards the north side of the lake where this eased off and was a lot easier for the rest of the walk. There was one cloud hanging over Tonduff North which was like a table cloth and it did not move for the whole night. The moon shone on the lake and we had a marvellous evening. New friends made and another adventure behind us. Until the next one!
