8 Days - €850
Day 1: 8:00 a.m.
Pick up the city centre Dublin - Dublin Tourism Office. This is where your journey will begin.
All people will be introduced to each other on the bus. I like to get each person to sing a song from their country to start things off! Your national anthem will do!
You will have the option to be picked up from Shannon Airport this day or Limerick city at 12 pm if this is more suitable.
The first day will be spent in the Tralee area, the gateway to the peninsula. We will arrive down there by early afternoon and you will get to walk around the town and visit some of its beautiful parks. Home to the world famous Rose of Tralee festival, the locals in this town will endear you like no other!
Day 2:
Wake up to a great Irish breakfast for your first day of walking. Today we will be walking up a mountain called Caherconree which has a fort on top of the mountain, an unusual place for a fort but beautiful none the less. It is a nice relaxing way to introduce you to the mountains around here. It is a relatively short walk and in the afternoon we will visit the village of Castlegregory where you can walk along its long beaches of is you wish go horse riding. We will be staying overnight in Tralee again for this evening.
Day 3:
Today we will be travelling deeper into the peninsula and staying in the village of Annascaul, made famous by Tom Crean who travelled a couple of times to the Antarctic with the aim of making it to the South Pole. He never made it but he immortalised the town and there is a pub called the South Pole Inn where you will visit that evening. We will be walking along the beautiful Annascaul Lake and onto Benoskee today. One of the least visited mountains in the region which makes it even more spectacular.
Day 4:
We will make it today to the village of Dingle where you will be staying for 3 nights. We will take a walk down the famous Conor Pass along an old green road while your guide will be teaching you about the entire local flora and fauna and the history of the village. Before arriving in the village your guide will bring you for a cliff walk to the threshold of Dingle Bay with the opportunity to see Fungi the famous Dolphin. That evening you will have a selection of 52 pubs to listen to music and a plethora of restaurants. Excellent seafood available!
Day 5:
We will be making our way around Slea Head - one of the richest areas of archaeology in this region, with its numerous beehive huts and promontory forts with an option of a walk up Eagle Mountain or a cliff walk overlooking the Blasket Islands. We will be overlooking the Blaskets most of the day and you will learn all about the rich history these islands have and the amount of poetry and story telling that originated from there. You may even get your guide telling a story or two to keep you oozing with delight. You will also have the option of visiting the interpretive centre with a detailed history of the islands. I believe some of the most beautiful views in the country can be seen on this day! You will get to visit a 12th century Romanesque church and Gallarus Oratory.
Day 6:
On your 6th day with Extreme Ireland you will get the opportunity to climb Ireland's second highest peak, Mount Brandon. We will be walking either from Cloghane village up the Pater noster or ribbon lake route or the pilgrims route from the southern side. Both are rewarding ways up and depending on the group the guide will choose that day. Final night in Dingle and we will endeavour to go to a local musicians concert with the group so you can experience local musicians playing Irish music.
Day 7:
We will be leaving Dingle today and staying over in the Cloghane region of the peninsula for your last night. A little village that is close to my heart for many reasons, I'll tell you if you are guided by me! We will be taking a lovely walk today to Sauce Creek along this promontory. This walk will take you over rolling green hills that look down onto the Atlantic rocking off the rocks a long way below your feet. Sauce Creek is an awesome sight when seen. It is a fantastic way to finish off the trip. Return to Cloghane for farewell dinner and overnight.
Day 8:
Unfortunately you will have to depart the tour today and make our way back to Dublin or Shannon. Say farewell to everyone on the tour and exchange email addresses and lots of tears! We will make a couple of stops on the way back but you can expect to arrive back in Dublin by 5 at the latest on this day
